FAQs About Our Traingift Rail Passes
Get your questions answered with our FAQs
What's the difference between a rail pass and a train ticket?
A train ticket usually only allows you to travel a single journey between two cities. While a rail pass offers unlimited journeys within an entire geographical journey (a country, 2 countries or more) for multiple days within a set timeframe.
What's the difference between a flexi pass and a consecutive/continuous pass?
A flexi pass provides a set number of travel days within a specified period. For example, 15 days of unlimited train travel to use within two months. You can choose any days to travel; they don’t have to be consecutive.
Continuous rail passes, like the Eurail Global Pass, offer unlimited train travel every day for the entire validity period. For example, with a 15-day Eurail Global Pass, you can travel for 15 consecutive days. Even if you skip a day, it still counts as used.
What is classed as a travel day?
A travel day is 24 hours from midnight to midnight. During this timeframe, you can take as many journeys as you like. Please note that rail passes use calendar days, so journeys within 24 hours of each other but on different days will count as two travel days.
Can I use my rail pass on any train within its area of coverage?
Generally, yes, but there are exceptions. Some trains, like high-speed, scenic, and night trains, require rail pass holders to buy reservations for an extra cost. For international trips, make sure your rail pass covers the departure country, destination country, and any countries you pass through. Lastly, some private rail lines don’t accept rail passes or offer reservations. In these cases, you’ll need to buy a local train ticket for that journey.
How long is my Rail Pass valid for?
The validity period of a rail pass is the time frame to complete your travels, starting from the date stamped by a railway official.
For a flexi pass, it’s typically one or two months. For a continuous pass, it matches the number of travel days.
